Its election time again and we can already see all news channels yakking all day long
.its 2014 so with the changing world we have made progress too. With the
emergence of social media everyone now is a expert in the country who has a
point on everything, which is not really that bad a thing . we are a nation
with democracy having rights on freedom of speech .this is my first blog on
politics so I am not really keen on putting statistics here which I would
definitely like to do in my later blogs. The point I want to bring is what is
different this time or it's all same in a different package. there is all this
talk which floats all around the youth is more keen on political issues
mainly because of still huge
unemployment and increasing poverty.
People claim this is due to rising social media where I tend to disagree a bit
as voting percent of young voters has increased and the emergence of AAP is the
biggest example. yes we are disappointed at seeing the state of our progress
and that anger has started sweeping away the ruling congress ,the beginning of
which were the recent elections in 4 states .A by product of it is also AAP
which shows our willingness to look at alternatives after being fed up from
both big shots BJP & Cong.
Coming to what is different this time I still feel what
we see on TV channels is a repeat of what we have always in election days. the
ruling party has failed & is pushed to a corner and all you hear is
opposition making the best use of it by telling how badly have they failed want
to ask all of these parties where is the Manifesto ?? .the media has almost
declared Modi to be the next PM in all their analysis ,they have been covering
all his rallies ,good governance slogans are being chanted every where he steps.
to me it looks all same like it has been in all elections. there are huge
promises “Brand India” “One India” is his cry in all the places he goes but
when it comes down to numbers and wooing voters the Cast card is played again and “Chaiwala” rises from
nowhere .How easily Caste fits in “ One India”
sounds mystery to me. So like every time this election is on making the
numbers by caste, telling failures of ruling party ,wooing Muslims ,backwards
and so on .Cong. has no face to show after failures and Rahul’s grassroots campaigns look a little too late
now. Parliament is the same wrestling arena like it has been in recent times
and Telengana haste just shows how desperate are parties to make the numbers.
Still no manifesto talk ,few would argue that Modi is on with his “Gujarat
Model” but no news channel has really bothered to dig in how will that be
achieved in a nation which is a zillion times bigger different and complex as
compared to 6 million gujratis.
The role of media also seems like it usually is .
running behind every rally of Modi & Rahul .when they seem to be not
selling then Kejriwal emergence was painted all day on every channel and news paper.
this brings more disgrace than anything else as to expect from media seems more
realistic than from a political party .media is deemed to be the fourth pillar
of democracy so why are they not drilling these parties on Manifesto. Why don’t
we see news debates where the anchor brings in manifesto every night and starts
up asking how will the promises be filled. if I start counting now it will take
like 3 months to be able to cover all major issues on every night debates and
by then the elections will be over and you might have a new PM already. So are
we really going to see this happening before we make our minds to go there and
vote after listening every party on there clear stands on major issues of the
country. To answer this is a straight No because we don’t have any manifesto yet
from parties even on there websites yet.they know that elections are not won
like this so they are doing what they always do and painfully the media is just
selling TRP’s .This is like just another elections so you can keep all the
youth and social media talk for yourself .AAP is chasing the rest on corruption
but that is only one although a major issue .they still don’t have a manifesto
too and there stand on the rest of the things stays very much blurred.
To sum up hopefully in the coming days who knows we
might see that happening but the chances are bare minimum.there might be a one
of cases where TV anchors and channels will focus on manifesto debates but it
will be little too late like Rahul’s padyatra. So just go and vote and don’t
expect this will be a historical moment in Indian history . it would just be
like any other election .
